Rosita Gilsenan
"Journeys"

Rosita Gilsenan
was born in Ireland, and received her college education in fine art, at the University of London. She taught high school art in London for several years, before becoming a full time artist, which enabled her to travel freely in Europe and to the USA. Her home base became the family farm in Ireland. This nomadic life lasted until she married and had her two daughters here in Warwick. Her batiks, (an Indonesian process utilizing hot wax and dyes to create subtle images on silk) have been exhibited in galleries in London, Dublin and New York.

The Countess of Mountcharles, and the Irish Board of Health display her work in their private collections. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, and the Irish Times. She has won several honors and Best in Show awards throughout her career. Recently, she has started to paint in pastels and experiment in other media. These days, the nomadic spirit is back,
and she is enjoying journeys, both spiritual and actual, in travel and in the scope of her work. Much of the work in this present collection is based on experiences in Tuscany and the South of France, where she went last year with a group of artists from Warwick. There are also some landscape paintings from Ireland, in the batik medium.

Rosita lives in Warwick and her two daughters are now grown. When the girls were very small, she studied Interior Design at Parson's School of Design, in New York City, became a Certified Kitchen Designer, and established her own kitchen design showroom and company in Warwick, which she still runs. The showroom is located at 11 First Street.
